The real estate major saw limited impact on demand due to the war in West Asia, which began on Feb. 28. "I would say around March last two weeks, we did see some amount of impact... you (the company) could have probably done an INR 1,000-odd crores (INR 10 billion) more (in revenues) and would have loved to even actually deliver 20% growth last year. That was a sort of an internal target," an official said. Given that the war is still ongoing, the company is cautiously optimistic on demand sentiment.

After incidents of lawyers using artificial intelligence tools to draft their petitions, cases of judges using the technology to draft judgments are coming to light. The Delhi High Court has prima facie found that a district judge in Saket used AI tools to draft orders. "The manner of drafting and the manner in which the text distinguishing the case laws is set out in the impugned judgement, prima facie, gives an impression that there is some AI (artificial intelligence) software which may have been used for the same," said a bench of Justice Prathiba M. Singh and Justice Madhu Jain.
However, without further examination it cannot be conclusively said whether AI software was used by the judge concerned and whether the judgement was properly reviewed thereafter, the bench said. But if non-existent propositions are attributed to judgments, it is "a matter of concern", it said. The high court has now requisitioned the trial court's record and listed the matter for hearing on Aug. 20.

While the victory of the Indian National Congress-led United Democratic Front in Kerala did not come as a surprise, in neighbouring Tamil Nadu, the newbie Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam led by actor-turned-politician Vijay Joseph Chandrasekhar thumbed its nose at a majority of exit polls and political pundits and inched closer to forming the next government in the state.
By 2030 IST, results for almost all 140 seats in Kerala, 126 in Assam, and 30 in Puducherry were declared. In West Bengal and Tamil Nadu, counting of votes was still going on, but the BJP and the TVK had gained an insurmountable lead in the two respective states.
Steady demand from the banking, financial services, and insurance vertical, sharp depreciation of the rupee against the dollar, and the absence of one-off costs related to new labour code provisions may help Wipro Ltd. report net profit growth for the March quarter, the first in 2025-26 (Apr-Mar). Similarly, the company's top line for the quarter is expected to grow at its fastest pace in over three years, thanks to the two-month revenue contribution from its recent acquisition of the digital transformation solutions business unit of HARMAN International. However, analysts are divided on how the company will fare in terms of margin for the quarter.
The information technology major's consolidated net profit for the March quarter is expected to rise around 3% sequentially to INR 35.11 billion, according to the average of the estimates from 18 brokerages.
Asian Development Bank has projected India's GDP to grow 6.9% in the current financial year, 40 basis points higher than estimated earlier but slower than the 7.6% growth in FY26. The multilateral bank expects the war in West Asia and high energy prices to weigh on India's economic activity and exports and push inflation higher in the near term.Growth is seen moderating this year mainly because of heightened global uncertainty caused by the war in West Asia, higher energy prices, and volatile trade and financial conditions, ADB said in its Asian Development Outlook for April. Growth is expected to pick up in FY28, supported by strong domestic demand, continued public investment, and an improving external environment, ADB said.

Analysts expect high costs to hit the earnings growth of companies in the March quarter, an otherwise better quarter that saw improvement in revenue growth. The US-Iran conflict pushed gas prices higher and interrupted the supply of key raw materials, which is likely to have resulted in higher costs for companies, brokerages said.
The 49 constituents of the Nifty 50 index for which estimates were available are likely to report a cumulative net profit growth of just over 3% for the March quarter over the same quarter last year, according to an Informist poll of 16 brokerages. The latest quarter's earnings estimates were compared with the year-ago figures of adjusted net profit, which exclude exceptional items. Earnings estimates were not available for Adani Enterprises Ltd.

The Reserve Bank of India Thursday released the final guidelines to facilitate quicker cross-border inward payments by banks. The guidelines will be effective in six months, the central bank said in a notification.
The speed of the cross-border payments is affected by several factors. The right time to launch the Central Bank Digital Currency depends on other countries being "ready" for it, as the biggest advantage of this currency is in cross-border transactions, Sankar said at a post-policy press conference. The RBI is in no hurry to launch the digital currency, he said.

So, if you quickly launch it and the other countries have not launched it, that is not the situation we want to be in," Sankar said.
